At Wimbledon Park, R C Grant carried out the site preparation and groundworks for the refurbishment of six tennis courts. This included clearing and preparing the site, establishing the correct ground levels and installing drainage to manage surface water and protect the court construction. The drainage was installed before the court base was formed, with suitable falls and connections to ensure effective water removal.
The court base was then constructed and compacted to create a stable, level foundation. Once it had been checked, the court surfaces were installed in layers to the required specification. Finishing works included levelling, surfacing and detailing the court edges to give a clean, durable and consistent playing area, ready for the courts’ return to use.
