Newly built tennis court with fresh surface and markings

A great tennis court starts long before the surface goes down. Here’s what’s typically involved:

  • Site preparation: clearing vegetation, removing existing surfaces and setting out the court.
  • Groundworks: excavating, levelling and preparing the ground.
  • Drainage: installing drains and forming falls so water runs off the court.
  • Base construction: laying and compacting the sub-base, followed by a suitable base layer.
  • Court surface: installing asphalt, concrete, artificial grass or another specified surface.
  • Finishing: applying coatings, marking the lines and installing the net posts and net.
  • Surrounding works: fencing, gates, paths and lighting where included.
  • Final checks: levels, drainage, line markings and the finished playing surface.

For a refurbishment, the work may also include removing the old surface, repairing the existing base and replacing worn fencing or equipment.
